This house was built on a beautiful site with a small traditional two storey house nestled between mature trees. Rather than demolish the existing house, we decided to keep it and convert it to an outbuilding with the new house positioned behind it.
In this way we created an entrance Courtyard reflecting the typology of the vernacular Irish farmhouse while at the same time retaining the history of the site.
The existing trees were preserved due to careful positioning of the house. All principal rooms face southwards with views of the woodland site to the rear. Subordinate and service areas are located to the north side of the house.
Bespoke joinery such as window seats and shelving are part of the architectural design and create warmth and comfort.
The house is constructed to NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) standards.
